Η κλήρωση για το ποδοσφαιρικό τουρνουά των Ολυμπιακών Αγώνων (άνδρες-γυναίκες) έλαβε χώρα την Τρίτη στο "Γουέμπλεϊ", με το άλλοτε "φαινόμενο" Ρονάλντο να συμμετέχει στη διαδικασία της, όπως επίσης και οι πρώην άσοι της μπάλας Ρόμπι Σάβατζ (Ουαλός) και Κέβιν Γκάλαχερ (Σκωτσέζος).
"Με τα παιχνίδια να γίνονται σε Αγγλία, Σκωτία και Ουαλία, και με εισιτήρια ακόμα διαθέσιμα, το ποδόφαιρο παρέχει στο κόσμο μία μοναδική ευκαιρία για να απολαύσουν την Ολυμπιακή εμπειρία αυτό το καλοκαίρι", δήλωσε στο πλαίσιο της κλήρωσης ο πρόεδρος της Οργανωτικής Επιτροπής των Αγώνων, Σεμπάστιαν Κόε.

Α' όμιλος: Μεγάλη Βρετανία, Σενεγάλη, Ηνωμένα Αραβικά Εμιράτα, Ουρουγουάη
Β' όμιλος: Μεξικό, Νότια Κορέα, Γκαμπόν, Ελβετία
Γ' όμιλος: Βραζιλία, Αίγυπτος, Λευκορωσία, Νέα Ζηλανδία
Δ' όμιλος: Ισπανία, Ιαπωνία, Ονδούρα, Μαρόκο
