Ο Ντιέγκο Φορλάν και η παρέα του επέστρεψαν στην πατρίδα τους μετά την κατάκτηση του Κόπα Αμέρικα, με 50.000 οπαδούς να αποθεώνουν τη Σελέστε στο ιστορικό "Σεντενάριο".
Στο γήπεδο όπου η Ουρουγουάη αναδείχτηκε πρώτη παγκόσμια πρωταθλήτρια το 1930, ο Όσκαρ Ταμπάρες και οι ποδοσφαιριστές του έζησαν μεγάλες στιγμές τα ξημερώματα, με τον κόσμο να αψηφά το κρύο και την κούραση προκειμένου να εκφράσει τη λατρεία του για την ομάδα με τις περισσότερες πλέον κατακτήσεις Κόπα Αμέρικα στη Λατινική Αμερική (15).
"Αυτό το Κύπελλο κατακτήθηκε με μεγάλη προσπάθεια και θυσίες και το αφιέρωνουμε σε εσάς μέσα από την καρδιά μας", ήταν τα λόγια του αρχηγού Ντιέγκο Λουγκάνο, την ώρα που ο εκστασιασμένος Σεμπαστιάν Αμπρέου, φώναζε:
"Αυτό το τρόπαιο πρέπει να μοιραστεί με όλο τον κόσμο που ήταν στο πλευρό μας. Καιρός ήταν να πάρει μία χαρά η Ουρουγουάη και ελπίζω να το απολαύσετε επειδή είναι για σας".
Πέρα από το "Σεντενάριο" η αποστολή της Ουρουγουάης γνώρισε την αποθέωση και στο αεροδρόμιο του Μοντεβιδέο, Καράσκο, όπου την περίμενε ο πρόεδρος της χώρας Χοσέ Μουλίκα μαζί με χιλιάδες κόσμου.
Κομβόι οπαδών συνοδεύει το πούλμαν της ομάδας στο "Σεντενάριο"
Χρειάστηκε μάλιστα να περάσουν πάνω από τρεις ώρες για να διανύσει το πούλμαν της Ουρουγουάης μία διαδρομή 15 χιλιομέτρων, με το αφηνιασμένο πλήθος να συνοδεύει την ομάδα από το αεροδρόμιο μέχρι το "Σεντενάριο" με ό,τι όχημα είχαν στη διάθεσή τους.
Όσο για τους πιο εκδηλωτικούς από πλευράς ομάδας; Αυτοί ήταν ο αρχηγός Ντιέγκο Λουγκάνο αλλά και οι Μαρτίν Κάσερες, Ντιέγκο Φορλάν και Σεμπαστιάν Αμπρέου, που ανέβηκαν στην οροφή του πούλμαν ανεμίζοντας σημαίες προς τους οπαδούς της "σελέστε".
